A Bit About Us

Hello there! Welcome to Brandywine Bulldogs! Ready to learn how we do things around here?

We are a homeschooling family living in Tennessee. We are true Tennesseeans at heart (even though we aren't natives) and love living in this beautiful state almost as much as we love the Bulldog breed. Our home is in a small town about two hours east of Nashville on eight acres just perfect for our family and our dogs. While this location is ideal for us, it's often too far for many of our Bulldog families to drive to! We offer free delivery within two hours of our location, so we can either deliver the pup to your home if you're within that radius, or we can arrange to meet halfway if you're beyond it. If you're out of state, we have a WONDERFUL puppy nanny service that can fly the puppy to your nearest airport. Our puppies are never flown cargo, and only fly in cabin with a trusted member of our delivery team.

Our passion for Bulldogs for several years ago. We had bred Frenchies for some time when we acquired our first "English" Bulldog, (fun fact - what most people typically call an "English Bulldog" is officially called, simply, "Bulldog"). Our first Bulldog was the incomparable Muffin, who you can meet here. We got this baby when she was a puppy, and my goodness, she was the wrinkliest, chunkiest, most heart-melting puppy you've ever met. Our iPhones and texts were filled with pictures of baby Muffin from that day on. We had fallen head over heels in love with the breed, and never looked back.

However, as adorable as Muffin was, we knew that health was just as big a factor as beauty. Bulldog health is one of our passions and a big part of the reason we didn't own and breed Bulldogs for many years. After spending much time in research and discussion, we discovered that there are two main factors in breeding healthy Bulldogs. The first most important thing is that before breeding two Bulldogs, their lines must be researched and studied extensively to be sure of healthy, quality dogs in both lineages. The second factor is specifically breeding for health and not for color. All of our dogs are consistent with the AKC standard, and rather than breeding for "fad colors" as we've seen many breeders do, our top priority is health. When all of these factors are taken into consideration before breeding, we have determined it is very possible to have extremely healthy bulldogs that live long and healthy lives, just like any other dog!

It is still true that bulldogs are not in general built for extreme sports, activities, or heat, but most people want a Bulldog for the same reason we do - to be a couch potato, travel companion, playful friend, and loyal companion to the entire family. While we can't guarantee that our Bulldogs will go on a ten mile hike with you, we can guarantee that they will be your absolute best friend for life. Bulldogs are excellent family pets and always draw adoring comments from everyone who meets them. Being able to produce beautiful and healthy bulldogs bred to the standard in health, color, structure and temperament is our passion.

Once we have the two perfect Bulldogs picked out, they must be paired via artificial insemination, as Bulldogs cannot breed naturally. Once pregnancy has been confirmed via ultrasound, we have little Bulldog babies on the way! The next step is to be sure that we are prepared for these new pups by getting the puppy area ready and keeping a close eye on the mama. When the due date arrives, it's time to take mama in for a c-section, as Bulldogs are also not able to deliver naturally. It's puppy time! Thus begins the next eight weeks of fun, excitement, happiness, exhaustion, wrinkles, puppy messes, and cuteness overload. It's an incredible mix of work and fun that makes what we do so rewarding.

The puppies and mama are watched over very particularly for the first two weeks of life when they are so young and vulnerable. They are kept warm and clean, and are checked on constantly by members of our family to be sure they are eating well and getting nice and fat. The mamas want to be in with their puppies almost constantly at this stage, and hate being away when they are taken outside to go potty. We have the best moms!

After the first few weeks, the puppies' eyes start opening, and it's so fun to watch them start to experience the world! They start to really explore and wiggle around in their pen. Somewhere in the three to four week stage they start toddling around on their little legs, and you've never seen something so cute as a rolly polly Bulldog trying to walk on those stubby legs of theirs! At five weeks the puppies start eating solid food, although they are also still nursing at this point as well. This is when they really start walking, tussling, exploring the world - and talking!

Once the puppies hit six weeks, the real fun begins! They are little doggies now with personalities, opinions, and lots of energy. We start weaning the mamas at this point. We take the moms out during the day, and put them back at night so that we can slowly wean the puppies off of milk and completely onto solid food. This is also one of the most important stages in terms of socialization. We have lots of kids in our family, and since we homeschool, they are home and around the pups all the time. Because of this the puppies naturally interact with the kiddos on a day to day basis. However, at this stage, we're particularly ensuring that the pups get lots of one on one time with our children. The puppies get baths and a photoshoot every week as well, and this involves lots of handling and different noises and situations. This is such a great start to getting the puppies socialized, used to being around kids, and accustomed to other noises, textures, and surroundings.

This focus on socialization is continued throughout weeks seven and eight as the puppies get bigger, more energetic, and even more curious about their world. We ensure that they get lots of playtime - their favorite is time in the yard in a little kiddie pool that our puppies LOVE. They are entirely on solid food by eight weeks (although we keep a close eye on the babies when we start this transition to make sure they are doing well enough on the solid food to be taken entirely off of their mama's milk), and their nice tubby tummies are a sight to see! We can't describe the cuteness at this stage! They are wrinkly, fat, and the most adorable things you've ever seen.

At eight weeks, the puppies are old enough to head home! We carefully pick out families for each baby, and when it's time to send these puppies off into their new lives, well, we can't describe the excitement and love we feel. We're thrilled to get to meet some of our families in person, and when we can't, after communicating for so long over text, email, or on the phone it feels like we know them almost as well as if we had met face to face. The joy we see in our families' faces when our pups go to their forever homes is incredibly rewarding, and is a huge part of why we do what we do.

We are thrilled to be a part of this Bulldog breeding community, and continue to improve our program and practices every year. Interested in one of our babies? We would LOVE to chat with you! Give us a call or send us a text or email! We will get back to you within 24 hours.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day!
